Beginning with the 1880s, when Coronado was only a shrub-filled peninsula, you will look back over Coronado's growth into one of the most fabled playgrounds of its time. A one and one-half hour walking tour begins with a narration of the Hotel Del Coronado, a monument to the past with its turrets, tall cupolas, and Victorian gingerbread structure visited by presidents, royalty, and celebrities. Your tour continues for several blocks highlighting the homes of John D. Spreckels, the "Sugar King;" the cottage of the Duchess of Windsor; and Larry Lawrence's home, rumored to become the Western White House. Explore the shops and galleries during free time.
