The Historic Gaslamp Quarter (#7)

Tour #7
February 22
12:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m.
(lunch on own)
$70.00 adult / child

On this tour, you'll explore one of San Diego's most historic areas, the Gaslamp Quarter. Beginning in the William Heath Davis House, you will learn about pre-Civil War military officers, San Diego founder Alonzo Horton, a German spy, and why it's called the William Heath Davis House even though William Heath Davis never lived in it! You'll discover why the entire home (and nine others) were shipped to San Diego from Maine in 1850, why it was once considered the "county hospital," and how (and why) the owners lived in the house until 1981 without electricity!

Then, it's time to stroll through the historic Gaslamp Quarter. Your guide vividly recreates the late 1800s, when the city near the waterfront fell into disrepair and the "Stingaree" district flourished. The tour highlights the largest collection of restored Victorian style commercial buildings on the West Coast and an eclectic array of architectural styles. As you admire the architecture, you'll discover the haunts of famous former resident Wyatt Earp, learn about the marketing secrets of the naughty ladies of the Stingaree, and learn the significance of the colored marbles.

Your experience of San Diego concludes with a delicious tea at the Horton Grand. Join us for a unique historical experience! Lunch on own, tea at 2:30 p.m.
