Madison: "The Town Too Beautiful To Burn"(#7)

Drive to Madison, a small jewel of a town hidden in the lush farmlands east of Atlanta. Madison has been called the "most picturesque town in Georgia" with its glistening-white antebellum homes framed by dogwoods and magnolias.

Your journey will begin with a walk through Heritage Hall, a historical antebellum home built in 1833 with high ceilings, massive woodwork, a curving staircase, crystal chandeliers, and double parlors. Tour the Madison-Morgan Cultural Center, an 1895 Romanesque Revival school building that houses a beautifully restored auditorium, art galleries, a Museum of History, and a fine collection of memorabilia of the area. You'll walk through the School Room Museum, a faithful reproduction of a classroom of 1895 that once housed one of the first brick grade schools in the South.

Next, you will visit the recently restored Rogers Home, one of the oldest Piedmont Plain-style homes in Morgan County filled with mid-nineteenth century furnishings. The last home you will visit on today's tour is the Rose Cottage built in 1891 on a lot adjoining the Georgia Railroad right-of-way in the eastern portion of Madison. Located in beautiful downtown is Madison Chop House Grille, where lunch will be served. This day promises to be a delightful look into life in the South!
