Principal Pundits
Question: Many state legislatures are considering refusing federal funding because of issues related to NCLB. Would you support such a movement in your state?
 |
 |
No. Our district runs on federal funds. We are a border community.

It's becoming a growing movement. I am more in favor of revisions that would help more schools realize the NCLB goals.

No, we need all of the resources we can get! I would advocate for full funding of NCLB and for removing or modifying some aspects of the legislation like AYP and achievement requirements for some populations, like special education students.

Refusing funding to schools is a very drastic measure when so many schools are so financially strapped. The increased need for good teachers, effective programs, and more social services for our student would be heavily impacted by such measures.

No! We currently have many mandates that are not funded. We would welcome initiatives provided that they are funded.

I would, but with concerns about appropriate state funding. The premise of NCLB is good, but it needs to include family and student accountability first to be effective.

I believe my state has already responded positively to this issue. Federal mandates with no federal funding are making it extremely difficult for us to comply with a basically good concept to leave no child behind.
