The American High School: Relic or Community Treasure?
Sunday, February 23
11:00 a.m. - 12:30 p.m.

The American high school is in danger of becoming a relic. If high schools are to survive as vital forces in the education of Americans, they must become community treasures. To make high schools the community treasures they need to become, principals and other school leaders must learn to create organizations that are capable of functioning in a competitive environment. Among other things, they must learn to create organizations that are change-adept and that have the capacity to build communities as well as to serve them. In this lecture by Phillip Schlechty, Founder and CEO, Center for Leadership in School Reform, threats to the high school will be discussed, and attention will be given to what principals can do to turn these threats into opportunities.
